Developmental implications of dichotomous ossification sequences in the wrist region.

چکیده
ABSTRACT As shown in radiographs of 3,764 children of European ancestry under 11 years of age, there are 55 dichotomous (present-absent/absent-present) ossification sequences for nine wrist region centers i n boys and 48 such sequences for girls, with statistically significant sexual dimorphism in more than half of the “alternative” sequences. Substantial samples of Meso-American origin (“Chicanos”) and largely-African origin (“Blacks”) evidence additional dichotomous ossification sequences, with clear population differences, while Down’s syndrome children (47 ,G f ) show a major excess of the numerically rarer sequences of the wrist region.

Magnitude of sex differences in dichotomous ossification sequences of the hand and wrist.
Among the dichotomous (present/absent:absent/present) ossification sequences individually ascertained in 3059 boys and girls with at least one but not more than 27 ossification centers of the hand and wrist, 54 such sequences exhibit statistically-significant sex differences in frequency, 32 of them at the 1% confidence level or better. Analyzed by regions (rows and rays, epiphyses and round bo...
متن کاملOntogenetic Sequence Analysis: using parsimony to characterize developmental sequences and sequence polymorphism.
Ontogenetic sequences are a pervasive aspect of development and are used extensively by biologists for intra- and interspecific comparisons. A tacit assumption behind most such analyses is that sequence is largely invariant within a species. However, recent embryological and experimental work emphasizes that ontogenetic sequences can be variable and that sequence polymorphism may be far more pr...
متن کاملPhylogeny of gazelles in some islands of Iran based on mtDNA sequences: Species identification and implications for conservation
Different species of gazelles are among the most endangered mammals on the Asian steppes and occur in the central, southern and northwestern regions of Iran. The previous conservation efforts in this region have been incomplete due to confusion about the phylogenetic relationship among various populations. So that, different conservation programs such as ex-situ breeding and transfer of captive...
متن کاملIntroducing a Non-Dichotomous Method for Scoring Selected-Response Tests
The main purpose of this study was to introduce a new non-dichotomous scoring procedure for the multiple-choice test method, called Parledge. The research also aimed to determine Parledge characteristics through a psychometric study comparing it with the “Number Correct” and “Correction for Guessing” scoring methods. There were 35 students participating in the study who were given a vocabulary ...
متن کاملOssification of Caroticoclinoid Ligament in a Human Skull: A Case Report
The Anterior Clinoid Processe (ACP) and Middle Clinoid Process (MCP) are sometimes connected by an osseous bridge formed by ossification of Carotico-clinoid Ligament (CCL), converting the distal end of carotid sulcus into an ostium called the Carotico-clinoid Foramen (CCF). Through the CCF passes one of the segment of Internal Carotid Artery (ICA). The CCF is the result of ossification of eithe...
